Program Info

Ana G. Mendez Alternative Certification Program (AGMU-ACP) prepares candidates to obtain the EC-6 teaching certificate with a choice of supplemental certificates in the areas of Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language or Special Education. The program offers a research-based curriculum which will prepare highly qualified bilingual educators in any certification area they choose.

AGMU-ACP's unique dual-language program is designed to help prepare and fill the state's critical shortage areas in bilingual, English as a second language and special education fields.

As part of the program, candidates complete field-based experiences in classrooms where they gain firsthand knowledge and skills of what effective educators do on a daily basis to create an engaging learning environment. These experiences are designed to provide the student teacher/intern with many opportunities to develop best practices in the field of education. Everyone involved in the program is committed to helping the student teacher/intern become a successful professional educator.

AGMU-ACP candidates apply and practice skills and knowledge in a dual-language setting that uses their language proficiency skills and raises their awareness of theory and pedagogy of teaching diverse populations and addressing students' individual needs. All of our instructors are certified practitioners in highly recognized school districts who have field expertise that they share with candidates to inform their practice. Instructors provide support in the classroom, feedback in the field and guidance in obtaining certification.
