Year 1: 

• Courses in foundations of education, diversity, literacy, teaching ESL students, classroom management and assessment. Students engage in hands on learning through field experiences and service learning.

Year 2: Clinical Teaching

• Clinical teaching I - Students take content area courses and have a significant amount of time in schools working with students and teaching lessons.
• Clinical teaching II - Full-time student teaching for the entire semester.

Education students will complete all core courses in their content areas and begin with education specific courses in foundations of education, content specific teaching technique, diversity, literacy, classroom management and assessment. Students engage in hands on learning through field experiences and service learning.

Hands-on experiences are essential to our programs. Students participate in field experiences in all of their education courses where they visit K-12 classrooms and work with children. Students are able to see applications of the content they are being taught in their education courses. Students also participate in a service learning project.

Our students are prepared for working with diverse populations through their field experiences in the K-12 schools.

Becoming a great teacher requires observing and receiving mentoring and coaching from master teachers. Our students are matched with an outstanding cooperating teacher in their clinical teaching semester. They work closely with teachers to receive feedback and guidance.
